Stablecoins are digital currencies designed to maintain a stable value, typically by being linked to a fiat currency such as the US dollar. Examples include USDC and USDT.
Calen uses stablecoins primarily as settlement infrastructure, rather than as a speculative investment.
For example, a customer or business might send pounds, Canadian dollars or US dollars, while the recipient receives naira, cedis, shillings or another supported local currency. Behind the scenes, stablecoins can be used to move value between payment partners more efficiently before the funds are paid out in the recipient’s local currency.
For most customers, this process is invisible. You send and receive familiar currencies while Calen and its infrastructure partners handle the settlement layer in the background.
Is it safe?
Calen works with regulated banking, payment and infrastructure partners and applies identity verification, transaction monitoring, sanctions screening and other financial crime controls.
Calen Payments Ltd. is registered with FinCEN as a Money Services Business in the United States. In other markets, regulated services are provided through appropriately authorised partners while Calen continues to pursue its own additional regulatory registrations and licences.
Stablecoins are simply one part of the infrastructure used to move money. Customers do not need to buy, trade or understand cryptocurrency to use Calen’s standard cross-border payment services.
